Red-shifting the surface plasmon resonance of silver nanoparticles for light trapping in solar cells - Volume 1101.

I have investigated the size evolution of the LSPR width induced by quantum confinement in silver nanoparticles isolated in vacuum Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of gold nanoparticles has been reported to increase the antimicrobial effect of the photodynamic therapy. Although silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are an efficient growth inhibitor of microorganisms, no studies exploring LSPR of AgNPs to enhance the photodynamic inactivation (PDI) have been related. Here we demonstrate that plasmon coupling can be used to monitor distances between single pairs of gold and silver nanoparticles. We followed the directed assembly of gold and silver nanoparticle dimers in real time and studied the kinetics of single DNA hybridization events.

Here we investigate the plasmon resonances of individual ligand-free silver nanoparticles using aberration-corrected transmission electron microscope (TEM) imaging and monochromated scanning TEM electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS). This technique allows direct correlation between a particle's geometry and its plasmon resonance.

This technique allows direct correlation between a particle's geometry and its plasmon resonance. Known as a surface plasmon resonance (SPR), this oscillation results in unusually strong scattering and absorption properties. In fact, silver nanoparticles can have effective extinction (scattering + absorption) cross sections up to ten times larger than their physical cross section.

Here, we used the discrete dipole approximation method to study the surface plasmon resonance of silver and gold nanoparticles in the proximity of a graphene flake or embedded in graphene structures. We study the surface plasmon (SP) resonance energy of isolated spherical Ag nanoparticles dispersed on a silicon nitride substrate in the diameter range 3.5–26 nm with monochromated electron energy-loss spectroscopy. A significant blueshift of the SP resonance energy of 0.5 eV is measured when the particle size decreases from 26 down to 3.5 nm.
